چکیده

We study how generic is the property of nonlocality among the set of quantum correlations for bipartite dichotomic measurements. To do so, we consider the characterization of these quantum correlations as those of the form γ = (〈ui, vj〉)i,j=1, where the vectors ui and vj are in the unit sphere of a real Hilbert space. The important parameters in this description are the number of vectors n and the dimension of the Hilbert space m. Thus, it is natural to study the probability of a quantum correlation being nonlocal as a function of α = mn , where the previous vectors are independent and uniformly distributed in the unit sphere of R. In this situation, our main result shows the existence of two completely different regimes: There exists an α0 > 0 such that if α ≤ α0, then γ is nonlocal with probability tending to 1 as n → ∞. On the other hand, if α ≥ 2 then γ is local with probability tending to 1 as n→∞. 1998 ACM Subject Classification H.1.1 Systems and Information Theory

How to Use Quantum Theory Locally to Explain “non-local” Correlations

J.S. Bell’s work has convinced many that correlations in violation of CHSH inequalities show that the world itself is non-local, and that there is an apparently essential conflict between any sharp formulation of quantum theory and relativity. Against this consensus, this paper argues that there is no conflict between quantum theory and relativity. Quantum theory itself helps us explain such (o...

Optimal correlations in many-body quantum systems.

Information and correlations in a quantum system are closely related through the process of measurement. We explore such relation in a many-body quantum setting, effectively bridging between quantum metrology and condensed matter physics. To this aim we adopt the information-theory view of correlations and study the amount of correlations after certain classes of positive-operator-valued measur...

Minimum Dimension of a Hilbert Space Needed to Generate a Quantum Correlation.

Consider a two-party correlation that can be generated by performing local measurements on a bipartite quantum system. A question of fundamental importance is to understand how many resources, which we quantify by the dimension of the underlying quantum system, are needed to reproduce this correlation. In this Letter, we identify an easy-to-compute lower bound on the smallest Hilbert space dime...

Jamming nonlocal quantum correlations.

We present a possible scheme to tamper with non-local quantum correlations in a way that is consistent with relativistic causality, but goes beyond quantum mechanics. A non-local “jamming” mechanism, operating within a certain space-time window, would not violate relativistic causality and would not lead to contradictory causal loops. The results presented in this Letter do not depend on any mo...
